Employing Staff
Hiring staff can be a daunting task. I have added a few links to help you along.
I highly recommend not starting any new staff without a TFN Declaration and Super Choice nomination. You could find yourself in a world of pain.
The Fair Work Commission
Fair Work Information Statement
National Employment Standards
The National Employment Standards (NES) are the minimum employment entitlements that have to be provided to all employees.
Employee Superannuation
Employers must offer eligible employees a choice of super fund and a standard super choice form.
Employers must give every new employee a copy of the Fair Work Information Statement (FWIS) before, or as soon as possible after, they start their new job
Documents you must provide your employees prior to the commencement of work
Tax File Declaration
Gone are the days of the paper TFN Declaration form.
Staff can still complete this online or log into their MyGov, complete and give you a copy. They can also declare their Super fund at the same time.
The Fair Work Commission website has a wealth of information for employers taking on staff including the Pay and Conditions Tool . Please check the website for information as Capital Bookkeeping does not provide advice on employment, conditions or awards.
Payroll Made Easier
Ditch the paper timesheets. Go with Tanda
Payroll can be tricky. As mentioned above, we do not provide advice on awards, conditions or wages. We do however, recommend a payroll app that is easy to use and integrates with you accounting software.
Accurate payroll records must be maintained. Tanda helps you comply.
Tanda is an all-in-one Payroll, HR and Workforce Management system. Tanda was founded in 2012 and is trusted by thousands of Australian businesses. Tanda remains an independent Australian owned business, headquartered in Brisbane. Just click on the Tanda icon to find out more.
Substantiating your claims
Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork
Record Keeping for your Business
The ATO requires all businesses to keep accurate and up-to-date records for at least five years. This includes every transaction—sales, expenses, and payments—and these records must be clear enough to support your tax returns and other obligations.
Staying on top of your record-keeping not only keeps you compliant with tax laws but also helps you manage cash flow, track business performance, and be prepared in case of an audit.
Paperwork
As your bookkeeper, it is imperative that you pass on your supporting documentation promptly so I can make a correct representation to the Tax Commissioner when lodging your BAS.
I’ll upload everything into your accounting software, so that it is accessible at all times.
ATO Compliance
Dext for MYOB
Hubdoc for Xero
Hubdoc is owned by Xero and included in your Xero subscription
I find Dext great for your MYOB file. It is a paid subscription.
Apps to make it easier
As part of your file set-up or in addition to your current accounting software, I can integrate the following apps to make it easier for you to provide paperwork. It is a simple as taking a picture with your phone when you buy something.
"Very Important"
Without your paperwork for your transactions, I cannot lodge your BAS on time. The ATO gets upset and can impose interest and penalties for late lodgements.
BAS Registration
Registered BAS Agent providing BAS Services as per the TPB and TASA Code of Conduct
